Diabetes - what it is.. Diet and Treatment

Diabetes is a lifelong (chronic) disease in which there are high levels of sugar in the blood.

Causes

Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas to control blood sugar. Diabetes can be caused by too little insulin, resistance to insulin, or both.
To understand diabetes, it is important to first understand the normal process by which food is broken down and used by the body for energy. Several things happen when food is digested:
  • A sugar called glucose enters the bloodstream. Glucose is a source of fuel for the body.
  • An organ called the pancreas makes insulin. The role of insulin is to move glucose from the bloodstream into muscle, fat, and liver cells, where it can be used as fuel.

People with diabetes have high blood sugar because their body cannot move sugar into fat, liver, and muscle cells to be stored for energy. This is because:
  • Their pancreas does not make enough insulin
  • Their cells do not respond to insulin normally
  • Both of the above

There are three major types of diabetes. The causes and risk factors are different for each type:
  • Type 1 diabetes:  can occur at any age, but it is most often diagnosed in children, teens, or young adults. In this disease, the body makes little or no insulin. Daily injections of insulin are needed. The exact cause is unknown.
  • Type 2 diabetes:  makes up most of diabetes cases. It most often occurs in adulthood, but teens and young adults are now being diagnosed with it because of high obesity rates. Many people with type 2 diabetes do not know they have it.
  • Gestational diabetes:  is high blood sugar that develops at any time during pregnancy in a woman who does not have diabetes.
Diabetes affects more than 20 million Americans. Over 40 million Americans have pre-diabetes (early type 2 diabetes).

Symptoms

High blood sugar levels can cause several symptoms, including:
  • Blurry vision
  • Excess thirst
  • Fatigue
  • Frequent urination
  • Hunger
  • Weight loss
Because type 2 diabetes develops slowly, some people with high blood sugar have no symptoms.
Symptoms of type 1 diabetes develop over a short period of time. People may be very sick by the time they are diagnosed.

Exams and Tests

urine analysis may be used to look for high blood sugar. However, a urine test alone does not diagnose diabetes.
Your health care provider may suspect that you have diabetes if your blood sugar level is higher than 200 mg/dL. To confirm the diagnosis, one or more of the following tests must be done.
Blood tests:
  • Fasting blood glucose level -- diabetes is diagnosed if it is higher than 126 mg/dL twice. Levels between 100 and 126 mg/dL are called impaired fasting glucose or pre-diabetes. These levels are risk factors for type 2 diabetes.
  • Hemoglobin A1c test --
    • Normal: Less than 5.7%
    • Pre-diabetes: 5.7% - 6.4%
    • Diabetes: 6.5% or higher
  • Oral glucose tolerance test -- diabetes is diagnosed if glucose level is higher than 200 mg/dL after 2 hours. (This test is used more often for type 2 diabetes.)
Screening for type 2 diabetes in people who have no symptoms is recommended for:
  • Overweight children who have other risk factors for diabetes, starting at age 10 and repeated every 2 years
  • Overweight adults (BMI greater than 25) who have other risk factors
  • Adults over age 45, repeated every 3 years

Treatment

There is no cure for diabetes. Treatment involves medicines, diet, and exercise to control blood sugar and prevent symptoms and problems.

Outlook (Prognosis)

Studies have shown that better control of blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure levels in persons with diabetes helps reduce the risk of kidney disease, eye disease, nervous system disease, heart attack, and stroke.

Possible Complications

Emergency complications include:
  • Diabetic hyperglycemic hyperosmolar coma
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis
After many years, diabetes can lead to other serious problems:
  • You could have eye problems, including trouble seeing (especially at night) and light sensitivity. You could become blind.
  • Your feet and skin can develop sores and infections. After a long time, your foot or leg may need to be removed. Infection can also cause pain and itching in other parts of the body.
  • Diabetes may make it harder to control your blood pressure and cholesterol. This can lead to a heart attack, stroke, or other problems. It can become harder for blood to flow to your legs and feet.
  • Nerves in the body can become damaged, causing pain, tingling, and a loss of feeling.
  • Because of nerve damage, you could have problems digesting the food you eat. You could feel weakness or have trouble going to the bathroom. Nerve damage can also make it harder for men to have an erection.
  • High blood sugar and other problems can lead to kidney damage. The kidneys might not work as well, and they may even stop working.

Prevention

Keeping an ideal body weight and an active lifestyle may prevent type 2 diabetes.
There is no way to prevent type 1 diabetes.
To prevent complications of diabetes, visit your health care provider or diabetes educator at least four times a year. Talk about any problems you are having.

Importance of Rock salt OR Sea Salt

STRESS RELIEF. Is salt bad for hypertensive?

What is bad fora hypertension is iodized salt, which is a fake salt. It
is made up of only 3 synthetic chemicals, sodium, chloride, iodine. It
does not melt in water (glistens like diamonds), does NOT melt in the
body, does not melt in the kidneys, gives kidney stones, and raises
blood pressure. However, it is the salt favored by the synthetic
drug-based doctors who say it is very clean and sanitary, pointing to
how white it is and how it glistens like diamonds. The fake salt is
man-made in a factory. The true salt, which comes from the sea and
dried under the sun and commonly called rock salt , has 72 natural
minerals including natural sodium, chloride, iodine. It melts in
water, melts in your body, melts in the kidneys, do not give kidney
stones, and best of all brings down blood pressure and stops/prevents
muscle cramps, numbness, tingling.

If you get muscle cramps in the lower legs at night, just take ½
teaspoon of rock salt and a glass of water, and the cramps with its
horrific pain will be gone in 5 minutes. The highest BP that came my
way was in a woman who had a BP of 240/140 and came to my house at
10:30 pm on what she said was a matter of "life and death" because the
high BP was already giving her a crushing headache, especially the
back of her head. She could not walk up the 6 shallow steps to my
porch. Two men had to help her, one on each side, in addition to the
cane that she needed to prop herself up.

I muscle tested her and found that underlying her BP of 240/140 and
the crushing pain in the head, her body's water content was only 6%
(normal is 75%), salt content was zero, potassium was 96% deficient,
and cardiac output (blood flow from the heart) was only 40% (normal is
100%). So the blood supply to the head was 60% deficient.

I gave her one 6" long green sili (hot pepper), 1 raw ripe saba
banana, 1/2 teaspoon of rock salt and 3 8-oz glasses of tap water. The
sili was to normalize cardiac output and shoot blood to the head, the
saba banana was for the potassium deficiency and to have food in the
stomach because pepper will give a stomach ache if the stomach is
empty, and the rock salt and the water were the first aid for her
severe dehydration which was causing her arteries to be dry and stiff
and her blood to be thick and sticky, because they were dehydrated.

After 5 minutes, she said, "The pain in my head is gone." We took her
BP, it was 115/75, and cardiac output was up to 100%.

She walked out of the house to her car without the men helping her and
without the cane.

She has been taking 2.5 teaspoons of rock salt, 15 glasses of water, 6
Saba bananas and 3 of the long pepper daily since then (beginning
September 2009), and her BP and cardiac output have been normal since
then.

Two months later, in November, at a PCAM round table forum on
hypertension in Club Filipino, she gave her testimony, followed by her
brother who said that she grew 2", because the salt and the water had
refilled her compressed disc spaces in her vertebral column. The disc
spaces had become compressed because they had become dehydrated since
the fluid filling up these discs are 95% water.

Why salt? Because without salt the body cannot retain water no matter
how much water is drunk. You will still be dehydrated because you will
just keep urinating and sweating the water out.

This is not an isolated case. When BP is rising high but there is
little or no headache but there is stiffness of shoulder and neck
muscles, all you need to normalize the BP and remove the stiffness and
the pain in 5 minutes is 1/2 teaspoon of rock salt and 3 glasses of
water. If there is crushing pain in the head, it means blood supply to
the head is lacking, and you will need the sili to normalize it and
shoot blood to the head and remove the extreme pain.

Solar System - Know about the Solar Planets

The Solar System

• The solar system is located 26,100 light years from the centre of the Milky Way and was formed about 4540 million years ago from a globe of gas and dust.
• Most of the mass became concentrated in the central core to form the Sun, but part of the surrounding matter formed a flattened disc, which evolved into the eight planets (now there are only 8 planets with Pluto being relegated to the status of Dwarf planet) and other objects of the solar system.
The boundary between the inner and outer solar system is taken to be the orbit of Jupiter. The inner solar system consists of the four terrestrial planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, as well as the asteroid belt. The outer solar system comprises the four next planets - Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. These outer planets are all giant ‘gas’ planets; although they are all expected
to have rock-iron cores, it is the composition and behaviour of the outer gas layers which gives each its unique characteristics.

MERCURY
Mercury’s surface is dominated by large basins representing different epochs in the formation of the crust. There are a large number of impact craters. The high density of the planet is due to its iron-rich core, which is 3600 km (2200 mi) in diameter and accounts for 65% of Mercury’s mass.
The atmospheric pressure is only one-trillionth (10-12) that of Earth and, without the protection of an atmosphere, there is a wide variation in surface temperature, from up to 420°C (790°F) in the day down to - 180°C (-290°F) at night.

VENUS
Although similar in size to Earth, Venus is an extremely hostile planet with an atmosphere rich in carbon dioxide. It has a surface pressure 94 times that of the Earth at an overall temperature of 464°C (867°F). A thick planet-wide cloud cover, 50-75 km above the surface, contains a high concentration of droplets of sulphuric acid, which may be due to emissions from active volcanoes. Although the surface cannot be seen from Earth, Venus is essentially flat (with 80% being within 1 km of the planet’s average radius). Venus does not have the same type of tectonic geological structure as the Earth, but appears to periodically undergo extensive resurfacing, so that the current surface is relatively young – only 500 million years old. Although the rotation period is longer than its year, a Venusian ‘day’ (sunrise to sunrise) is equivalent to 116 Earth days.

EARTH
The Earth is the largest and densest of the inner planets, with an atmosphere consisting mainly of 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen at an average temperature of 15°C (59°F). Twothirds of the surface is covered by oceans and the mean (average) sea level can be used as reference from which the maximum deviations are a depth of 11,022 m (36,160 ft) for the Mariana Trench in the
Pacific ocean and a maximum height of 8863 m (29,078 ft) for Mount Everest in the Himalaya, a difference of 19.9 km - only 0.3% of the Earth’s radius.

THE MOON
With an equatorial diameter of 3476.3 km, a polar diameter of 3471.9 km and a mass of 7.348 x 1019 tonnes or 0.0123 Earth masses, the Moon is the fifth largest and fifth most massive satellite in our solar system.
Extensive space probe  photography has now recorded the whole of the lunar surface showing the presence of craters, mountain ranges and broad plains of frozen lava known as ‘seas’ or ‘maria’. Because the Moon has no atmosphere, there is a wide variation in surface temperature,  from 117°C (243°F) at the Equator at mid-day to -163°C (-261 °F) after nightfall.
The current theory of the Moon’s formation is the ‘giant impact’ theory, suggesting that in the violent early history of the solar system, the newly formed Earth was struck by at least one and possibly several very large planetesimals.

MARS
Like Venus, the atmosphere of Mars is mainly carbon dioxide, but only at a surface pressure about 116th that of Earth at an average temperature of - 53°C (-63°F), which is 68°C (122°F) lower than that of Earth. The surface is highly complex, consisting of flat plains, craters, dormant volcanoes and pole caps. There are also a number of large channels such as ‘Valles Marineris’, which is at least 4000 km long, up to 600 km wide and 7 km deep. It now appears that life on Mars could only have developed to a microbiological level. Although there is evidence that many channels must have been fashioned by large quantities of water in the past, there is now no evidence of water in the outermost surface layers or in the atmosphere, although water ice is still present
under the frozen carbon dioxide polar caps.

JUPITER
A model of Jupiter suggests that it may have a central rockiron core about 15,000 km in diameter, weigh about 15 Earth  masses, and is surrounded by a shell of metallic hydrogen extending to a radius of 55,000km from its centre. The ‘Great Red Spot’, which was first seen in 1664, is a long-lived swirling storm which rises up to 8 km above the surrounding cloud deck. The planet has a very strong magnetic field, about five to ten times stronger than that of the Earth. This results in the formation of extremely lethal radiation belts about 10,000 times more powerful than those of Earth.
The ring system on Jupiter was discovered in 1979 and has three components.

SATURN
Saturn’s internal structure is generally considered to be similar to that of Jupiter, but with a much smaller metallic hydrogen
layer extending to only 26,000 km from the centre of the planet. The true nature of Saturn’s rings, initially vaguely observed by Galileo in 1610, was deduced by Christiaan Huygens (Netherlands) in 1659. Composed mainly of water ice, the main ring system is 273,550 km in diameter, but only about 10 m (33 ft) thick.
Although officially Saturn has eighteen satellites, many more candidates have been observed from re-examination of photographs from the Voyager 2 encounter and from Hubble Space Telescope observations. The largest of the moons, Titan, is the only satellite in the solar system with an extensive atmosphere.

URANUS
Uranus can just be seen with the naked eye, this much smaller gas planet is believed to have a rock-iron core surrounded by
a ‘sea’ of water, methane and ammonia. The outer atmosphere is composed mainly of hydrogen, but with about 26% of helium and a small amount of methane, which is responsible for the greenish colour of the atmosphere.
The large tilt of Uranus’s axis (98°) means that day and night on some parts of the planet may last up to 21 years, but the sunlit ‘south’ pole and dark ‘north’ pole differ very little in temperature.

NEPTUNE
The planet Neptune is invisible to the naked eye. Neptune is an extremely dynamic world with many discernible cloud
features and extremely high wind speeds. The planet radiates 161% more heat back into space than it receives from the Sun. The bluish colour of the planet is due to the presence of methane in the atmosphere.
The Voyager 2 encounter proved that there were three distinct rings and a diffuse ring of material between 38,000 to 59,000 km from Neptune’s centre. In 1989, the Voyager imaging team discovered six new satellites in addition to the two already known. The largest of the  satellites, Triton, has a large  orbital inclination (157°) and a retrograde orbit (opposite to the direction of Neptune’s rotation).

THE SUN                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  At the centre of the solar system is the Sun, a mass composed of 73% hydrogen, 25% helium and 2% other elements.
The internal structure of the Sun consists of a helium-rich core, in which hydrogen undergoes fusion to helium. The atmosphere of the Sun consists of a ‘chromosphere’, which extends to about 10,000 km above the photosphere. It has a sufficiently high temperature. The chromosphere only becomes visible during total eclipses, when the photosphere is blocked out. The outer atmosphere or ‘corona’ is an extremely thin gas at a high temperature which appears as a white halo. It allows the continuous dispersal into space of the Sun’s matter in the form of a plasma of charged particles. This ‘solar wind’ permeates the whole of the solar system. Solar flares are huge jets of gas flung many thousands of kms from the chromosphere.

Green Tea Benefits for Health

The health benefits offered by green tea are remarkable. If you are interested in getting to know the intricacies involved in the health benefits of green tea, go ahead and read this article. The article gives you a detailed idea on how beneficial is green tea for maintaining the state of your good health.

Green tea is one of the best natural blends that offer remarkable health benefits in the long run. If you have not heard the health benefits of green tea, you have come to the right place. This article gives you the details regarding the benefits of green tea.

Why is Green Tea so Special and What are the Health Benefits of Green Tea?

Presence of Anti Oxidants: Green Tea is the store house of epigallocatechin gallate, an antioxidant that is twice as effective as resveratol that is present in red wine. This antioxidant effectively protects the cells of your body and helps you get rids of malignant cells without creating any negative side effects.

Weight Loss Tool: As per the reports from Japanese research, it is proven that green tea when consumed 5 times per day on a regular basis helps you in reducing your weight by 70 calories a day.

Raises HDL and Lowers LDL: Yet another critical health benefit of green tea is the fact that it reduces the bad cholesterol content and increases the good cholesterol count in your body.

Panacea for Blood Pressure and Type 2 Diabetes: Green tea is rich in polysaccharides and polyphenols. These antioxidants present in green tea when consumed lower your blood pressure and sugar level thereby preventing the onset of Type 2 Diabetes. Green Tea has the power of smothering angiotensis II, a chemical that causes the choking of blood vessels within your body. This in turn keeps your body’s blood pressure under control.

Relives You Of Skin Problems: Green tea is one of the natural solutions that helps you to get rid of your skin wrinkles (see: wrinkle creams) and blemishes. It has proven to be the best solution for skin acne, psoriasis, rosacea and warts.

Increases Body Immunity And Frees You From Allergies: The flaveboids and polyphenols present in green tea are said to increase your body immunity to remarkable levels. The antioxidants of green tea have the capacity to suppress the receptors that cause allergies within your system. The antiviral and anti bacterial properties of green tea prevent you from getting into contagious flu, cold and common cough. It has the remarkable power to kill the botulus, clostridium and staphylococcus that enter into your body. Theophilline present in green tea defends your bronchial tubes thereby reducing the severity o asthma in patients. Due to that anti bacterial property of green team tit has proven to prevent the decay of tooth to a very great extent by killing the harmful germs that cause the decay.

Practical Solution for Retarding the Development of Arthritis, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s: Green tea has the power to subdue the enzyme that ruins cartilage and thus helps you in keeping away from contracting arthritis. Alzheimer’s is mainly caused due to reduction in the level of acetylcholine in the brain. Green tea defends against the reduction of acetylcholine and aids in slowing down the process of Alzheimer’s contraction. Green tea protects the destruction of brain cells thereby making the probability of contracting Parkinson’s to minimal levels within our body.

Fights Against HIV: Being an anti bacterial agent, green tea is said to prevent the HIV from getting bound to the healthy cells of your body with ease.

How To Extract The Maximum Health Benefits of Green Tea?
Ensure that you have a look at the preparation instructions before you embark into the venture of green tea preparation. You can also go for free trials of teas like ultra green tea and wu yi tea.
Make sure that the green tea that you take consists of at least 40% of raw tea leaves.

While preparing green tea, make sure that you allow the steeping process to take place in well boiled water. This extracts maximum medicinal benefits of green tea.

Don’t ever over brew green tea for you may spoil all the benefits that it offers to your body.

Understand the noteworthy health benefits of green tea and get yourself habituated to drinking green tea on a regular basis right away!

Create An Invisible Folder

This is not a secure hack. It is designed to hide your files from some one who is browsing through folders, not your system admin, not your computer hacker friends. Think of it like hiding your money under the mattress, if some one really wants to find it they will, but if they are not looking for it they wont find it. It’s a fun trick and it works best on your desktop (just remember where you placed it!)

You ever have a folder on your computer that you really don't want any one to find? You can make this folder hidden but then you have to un-hide all the folders when ever you want to find it. So how can you make a folder truly invisible? Follow these simple steps and your unmentionables will stay that way.

1. Right click where ever you want the invisible folder to be and New > New Folder.

2. Right Click on the folder and hit Rename. Erase the name of the folder so there is nothing there.

3. Hold down Alt button and press 0160 on the number pad (make sure Num Lock is on), release Alt. You should now have a blank name with nothing but a folder next to it

4. Now Right-click on the nameless folder and select Properties.

5. Go to the Customize tab. Press "Change Icon" button. Scroll through the icons until you find one that has no image.

6. Hit OK and you have an invisible folder!

Of course, if you select the folder (click on the folder), it will get highlighted.
